In our Web Design Studio sessions we were introduced to AppFurnace as a tool to create apps for Android or iOS devices. We were tasked with choosing a topic that was either a UWE Freshers Guide, an informational app for an event or a simple game. I decided to go with an app based around an event me and my father organise which is an annual 7-a-side football tournament and family fun day which raises money for Cancer Research.

The event is called the Michael Long Memorial Shield and the reason I chose this is because I already created all of the media for this event including a logo (Fig.1), website, Facebook and twitter page. Links to which can be found below.

Figures 2 and 3 show my wireframe designs for my app. As you can see it is quite simple, The purpose of this app is to act as a gateway to important information and locations on the web for the event. Figure 2 is the wireframe for the home page of the app, which is largely a scrollable area with links and information about our affiliates. This is heavily based on the sidebar of the main event website linked below. Figure 3 shows the wireframe for the location page, named ‘Where to find us’. This page is accessible through a button at the bottom of the homepage and it just includes a map, centred on the Lansdown cricket club in Bath and the address below that. For full navigation there are buttons on both pages of the app.

The final AppFurnace pages can be seen in Figures 4 and 5. As you can see I continued the same design of the website linked below. This means that there is a continuity with the design of both the app and the website. The home page is shown in figure 4, the elongated iPhone image shows the scrollable area. The location page is shown in Figure 5.

I have only been able to test the app on an iPhone as of yet, although when testing online in android view the application appears to function just as well as it does on iPhone. I don’t anticipate any problems running this app on either iPhone or Android.

In this page I will be talking about the app I decided to create for my web design studio project and how I went about this.
